The décor here is simple, with country cottage accents and simple, understated colors. The cuisine, on the other hand, is worldly and elegant, though never pretentious. Contemporary American and Continental dishes are prepared with care and finesse. Warm your body and soul with one of Chez Betty's delicious soups; then move on to a starter like the sun-dried tomato and rock shrimp risotto or warm spinach salad. Entrées include locally caught red trout filet and the house specialty, rack of New Zealand lamb. A four-course tasting menu is available each night.

The Continental menu capitalizes on fresh ingredients and careful preparation, resulting in dishes like Thai-style roast duck, grilled beef tenderloin, and pan-seared Atlantic salmon. The herb-marinated rack of lamb also draws consistent raves. A six-course tasting menu features such delicacies as fried oysters with citrus slaw and duck breast with black mission fig demi-glace and herbed spoon bread. Sinful desserts, perfect with a cup of French press coffee, include double chocolate pumpkin cheesecake. Wines by the bottle and glass are available, and service is attentive and conscientious. The Scene
Located inside the Copperbottom Inn, this popular eatery is just off Park Avenue. Betty, the restaurant's namesake goldfish, reigns over a dining room awash in white linens and earth-toned walls. The clientele is made up of well-kempt locals and in-the-know visitors. An eclectic collection of plates makes every dish a surprise. Fireplaces, knickknacks, old family photos and race-car models finish the restaurant's homey feel.

The Food
Reductions and fresh, seasonal ingredients are the keys to the seasonal menu. Creative pairings include smoked salmon ravioli and wild mushroom crepes. Sauteed French Burgundy escargot is presented in a puff pastry with garlic, tomatoes, red peppers and country ham. Other notable entrees include sauteed scaloppine of turkey breast with shrimp and artichokes, and the popular rack of lamb marinated in garlic and herbs.
